This is a centuries-old recipe used by the Native Americans as a sustainable planting technique. Using this method of propagation, the compost provides nutrients for seeds planted in poor soil conditions and the clay protects the seeds until rains fall to soak the clay, stimulating the seeds and keeps insects at bay. The seeds contained in the balls then germinate in ideal conditions for each climate-region. Seedballs can be planted in your garden or scattered on any sunny slopes or any low maintenance area that you have. They work best if kept intact and lightly scattered in partial to full sun. Keep seedballs MOIST until the sprouts begin to grow! The seeds cannot germinate if the seedballs are buried. Press seedballs gently into the ground, pots, or scatter in fields; 8 to 10 inches apart or closer for a more compact look. If placed into pots the flowers will flourish, they will be smaller in size and have a shorter floral display time.
